Windows NT. Continue.

Recently, Windows NT's market share growth has slowed, largely due to competition from an unexpected direction: Linux. Linux runs on the same cost-effective hardware that Windows 98 and Windows NT run on, yet it is faster, easier to administer, and more stable than is Windows NT. Hitherto, a lack of support options had held Linux back, but with such backers as Caldera, Red Hat, and Intel, Linux now has the support it needs to be considered a viable alternative to Windows NT. If you are responsible for making computer purchasing decisions, DO NOT OVERLOOK LINUX. Depending on your circumstances, Linux may do a better and more cost-effective job of meeting your company's needs than will Windows NT. Will Cydonia sell you a computer with Windows NT? Yes, but we think that, depending on your circumstances, products such as Linux and BeOS offer your company a potentially better computing solution than does Windows NT. Of course, Windows NT might be the right operating system for you: it depends on your needs, and on whether the software you need will run on Linux or BeOS. Cydonia's goal is not so much to dictate to its customers, as it is to educate them about possibilities they might not have fully considered. As you make the decision about what operating system to use, simply keep in mind that Linux is more stable, and has fewer bugs, than Windows NT. Also, the BeOS is much better suited than NT to multimedia applications, such as picture editing, computer animations, and other graphics-intensive applications. Don't you owe it to yourself, your company, and your employees to find the most effective and least costly computer solution available? A little research now can save you a lot of headaches down the road.

Summary

Windows NT has several advantages that make it worth considering. Workstations that run Windows NT are less expensive than comparable UNIX machines, there is a large variety of hardware and software available for Windows NT computers, and Windows NT is more stable now than in the past. However, compared to Linux and BeOS, Windows NT's code is slow, bulky, and unstable, meaning that Windows NT is not the right solution for everyone. Windows NT is only advised for companies that have professional network administrators, and not for individual computer users. Wide software support means that in most cases, Windows NT will support the software your business needs. The decision as to whether to use Linux, Windows NT, or BeOS is not a simple one. Bear in mind the advantages and disadvantages of each.
